Abstract:
This is the first evidence of the presence of Genetically Modified (GM) soybeans in the producing areas of this crop in the provinces of Los Ríos and Guayas in Ecuador. The detection was done through a field monitoring, using a kit based on an immunological technique. This finding accounts for the lack of a systematic program of monitoring and surveillance, and the urgency of implementing it, to comply with the constitutional mandate that declares the country GM free.
