Abstract:
We thank Dr. Breum and his colleagues for their interest in our study. As representatives of Bayer CropScience (BCS), the primary registrant of the active ingredient glufosinate-ammonium, they expressed some questions about our results showing the presence of glufosinate and its metabolite 3-MPPA in the serum of pregnant and non-pregnant women.
We discuss the following issues: (1) 3-MPPA vs. NAG; (2) Toxicological effects of 3-MPPA vs. glufosinate; (3) 3-MPPA analysis; (4) Absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination (ADME) of glufosinate and 3-MPPA; (5) Factors influencing the detection of glufosinate and 3-MPPA in pregnant women; (6) Conclusions.
