Abstract: The International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) (http://www.agassessment.org) responds to the environmental and social consequences of technological agricultural development. The goals of the IAASTD are to: assess Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology (AKST) whether and how to reduce hunger and poverty, improve rural livelihoods and facilitate equitable, and environmentally, socially and economically sustainable development. The IAASTD Report captures the complexity and diversity of agriculture and AKST across world regions. Its synthesis report organized into two parts with eight cross-cutting themes: bioenergy, biotechnology, climate change, human health, natural resource management, trade and markets, traditional and local knowledge and community-based innovation, and women in agriculture. Two lead authors of the Report share their perspectives.
